China and the US have held a joint exhibition on nuclear material security. The week-long event, the first of its kind, is considered an important step in strengthening nuclear cooperation between the two countries.
With this meeting, the world's two nuclear powers are solidifying their commitment to security cooperation.
Some 150 experts and technical personnel from China and the US, will be holding various discussions in the following days, exchanging knowledge and building up cooperative channels.
Chairman of China Atomic Energy Authority Sun Qin said: "The two sides will establish a platform, through which we can display the advanced technology and equipment designed for nuclear non-proliferation."
The demonstration also include joint technical work on hardware and software and system design and installation, all in a bid to promote security practices at civilian nuclear facilities that prevent nuclear material theft.
Linton Brooks, administrator of US Nuclear Security Administration, said: "We admire very much the work China is doing on nuclear safeguards and we look forward to cooperating with China. This is an important demonstration of that cooperation."
China and the US signed basic agreements on nuclear technology and activities as early as two decades ago. Since then, the two sides have been moving closer in this field of cooperation.
