Public Security Department of Hunan

Public Security Department of Hunan is a functional department under provincial government in charge of public security in Hunan. According to the current system of province's direct supervision over county, besides provincial public security department, a public security bureau (substation) has been established in each city and county (or district), and a police station has been established in each village, town and street office. Public security organizations of city and county level are in double guidance and management of superior public security organizations and local Party committee and local government.

Main functions and responsibilities:

1. To prevent, deter and spy into illegal and criminal activities;

2. To maintain public order and deter activities threatening public order;

3. To maintain traffic security and traffic order, and deal with traffic accidents;

4. To organize and do fire fighting and supervise fire fighting;

5. To manage firearms and ammunition, knife tools under surveillance and flammable, explosive, virulent and radioactive dangers.

6. To manage special trades regulated by laws and regulations;

7. To safe-keep special people regulated by the country, and safeguard important locations and facilities;

8. To supervise convocation, parade and demonstration;

9. To manage affairs of registered residence, nationality, entering and leaving China, and affairs of foreigners' residing and traveling in China;

10. To maintain public order in frontier (border) districts;

11. To execute crucifixion on criminals sentenced surveillance, detention or deprived of political rights or criminals punished outside prison, and supervise and inspect criminals sentenced probation or release on probation;

12. To supervise safeguarding of information systems of computers;

13. To instruct and supervise security order of state organs, castes, enterprises and government-sponsored institutions and key construction projects, and instruct safeguarding work of mass organizations as public security committee;

14. Other responsibilities regulated by laws and regulations.
