Since the reform and opening-up, the foreign capital of 9.64 billion US dollars has been utilized: foreign direct investment amounts to 4.6 billion US dollars; other forms of foreign investment runs up to 1.99 billion US dollars; and the indirect utilization of foreign capital totals 3.05 billion US dollars, including 1.12 billion US dollars from 30 projects of World Bank, 0.67 billion US dollars from 7 projects of Asian Bank, 0.46 billion US dollars from 7 projects of Japanese Bank for International Cooperation and 0.8 billion US dollars from 123 loan projects of foreign governments.

The year 2004 saw the actual utilization of 1.36 billion US dollars of foreign capital, an increase of 24.4%. Foreign direct investment amounted to 0.55 billion US dollars, an increase of 40%, which was ranked from the 18th to 15th in the whole country. The capital introduced from the outside Anhui province was 52.6 billion US dollars, up 50.9%. The total amount of imports and exports of the whole province was 7.21 billion US dollars, still ranking the first in the midwest of China and 11th in the whole county-the exports amounts to3.94 billion US dollars, up 28.5%.

Up to now, 24 of the World Top 500 enterprises have been introduced to Anhui, such as Siemens, Hitachi, Sanyo, Sumitomo, Du Pont, ABB, Unilever and Saint-Gobain, an so on.
